The Nigeria Labour Congress has demanded for a new retirement age for civil servants in the country.
“We are, therefore, demanding that the age of retirement and length of service in the entire public service, including the civil service, be reviewed upward to 65 years of age and 40 years of service, ” he said.
During the 2023 Workers’ Day celebrations, the NLC President also called for a general review of salaries to reduce the gap between different civil servants’ earnings.
He said that the extension of years of service should be applied to all sectors of the public service, including the core civil service.
The NLC noted that it has been requesting a salary review for years, but the Federal Government has not responded.
