Police arrest one of the culprit who killed two voters in Edo

The Edo State Police Command nabbed one of the alleged ballot snatchers who murdered two voters at a polling unit during the general elections on February 25.

Ehiozomwangie Omoregbe, 34, and his crew stormed the polling unit on the Benin-Sapele road in Ogheghe village, Ikoba Okha LGA, and stole vote boxes for an unknown principle.

The hoodlums fired into polling center to disperse people; however, a stray bullet struck three voters, including Mrs Elizabeth Owie and Idahosa Festus Ekhuorutomwen, who died on the scene, while the third fortunately survived.

Late Idahosa, 25, was a Material and Mythological Engineering graduate of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State, and the mother of three children.

Since February 25, Edo police have been looking for the culprits, and Omoregbe was apprehended thanks to intelligence gathered by Anti-kidnapping and Cybercrime Unit.

Ernest Skube, Aimienogho, also known as Adviser, Victor, also known as Junior Ajaka, and one Festus are among the other suspects who have been identified.

The suspect, who was apprehended on May 17, 2023, stated that their purpose was to take boxes, but that instead of shooting into the air, one of his gang members turned his pistol towards civilians.

“I was with my friends on the evening of February 25, 2023, when they were arguing with one of us who, instead of shooting into the air, just pointed the gun’s nozzle at people in the crowd.” He was suspected of murdering individuals. “The intention was not to kill anyone, but to steal the ballot boxes,” he explained.

Sp Chidi Nwabuzor, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed the arrest.

Chidi said,“I want to assure the people that any other persons named in the murder of the two people will be apprehended and brought to justice.”
