Desmond Izunwanne, a lecturer at Imo State University in Owerri, has been suspended for slapping one of his female students who allegedly arrived late for a lecture and for not wearing the departmental uniform.
This was made known in a press statement issued on Wednesday in Owerri, the state capital by the university’s spokesperson, Ralph Njokuobi.
In this viral video, the lecturer was seen slapping a female student last Saturday.
The lecturer slapped her and asked her to kneel since she wore a mufti to class.
“What’s your reason?”. Which hospital is it? Everyone is returning from the hospital. What is your motivation for becoming a mufti? the lecturer said in the video
In another video shared online, some students were also sighted crawling with their legs around the classrooms.
While describing the lecture’s action as barbaric and unbecoming of such a person occupying that position.” Njokuobi stated that the decision to suspend the lecturer was made at an executive session on Tuesday.
He also stated that a three-person panel was formed to “unravel the immediate and remote causes that led to his uncouth behavior.”
