The Federal Government has warned traditional rulers to stay away from mining sites as they belong to the landowners.
This warning was given by the Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Olamilekan Adegbite during the inauguration of the International Gemstone Market.
The minister explained that the Mineral and Mining Act 2007 favored the rightful owner of the site for mining activities, not traditional rulers.
The new gemstone market is expected to create sustainable competitive advantages in the development of downstream gemstone and gold mining industries, increasing employment, and attracting foreign investments.
