Bill seeking to establish Christian centre passes for second reading in Senate

A bill proposing the creation of the National Centre for Christian Education has been approved by the Senate for its second reading.

Senator Binos Yaroe has introduced a bill to regulate and establish acceptable standards for the practice of Christianity in Nigeria.

Yaroe stated that the improper way of practicing religions in the country has resulted in issues previously.

Senator Istifanus Gyang stated that extremism has been caused by the incorrect practice of religion during the debate.

Also speaking, Abba Moro, senator representing Benue south, said the bill is “apt” owing to the fact that some youths have been manipulated by extremist religious leaders.

The bill passed second reading after it was put to a voice vote by Senate President Ahmad Lawan.

Lawan referred the bill to the committee on education for further legislative input.
