Senator Olorunnimbe Mamora, the Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, has requested that the Nigerian government prohibit all imported food items that can be locally produced.
At the ministerial media briefing organized by the presidential communications at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Tuesday, Mamora made a call.
Mamora stated that due to the lack of investors, most local inventions in the country are inactive and ineffective.
He pointed out that the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation is facing difficulty in bringing research outputs to the market.
He mentioned that once this is accomplished, it will be considered an achievement.
Mamora spoke about the inventions achieved by the ministry and raised the question of what to do with them.
He mentioned that all the agencies under the ministry have come up with various inventions.
The challenge has always been to bring these research outputs to the market.
If we cannot do so, it will appear as though we have not accomplished anything.
He stated that the ministry plans to engage with stakeholders and consider introducing legislation that mandates the protection of inventions before they are brought to the market.
