Owo terror attack: Catholic Church to re-open Easter Sunday

The St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Owo local government, which was attacked by gunmen last year, will reopen for worshipers on Easter Sunday.

The attack on June 5th resulted in the deaths of 41 people and the injuries of 69 others.

Suspects arrested in connection with the military attack were discovered to be from the Ebira tribe, which is known for its migrant farmers.

Rev Bishop Jude Arogundade, Bishop of the Ondo Diocese, announced the reopening of the church at this year’s Chrism mass as part of the Easter celebrations.

According to Arogundade, the church has been locked since the attack on worshippers.

Arogundade said; “Since the unfortunate incident that occurred at the Saint Francis Cathedral in Owo on June 5, 2022, the church has been closed down for security reasons and as a mark of respect for our fallen brothers and sisters.”
