Soldier killed, three others injured as bandits attack Kaduna village

During a gunfight in Akoti village near Kagarko town in Kaduna State, bandits killed a soldier.

The attack also injured three other soldiers and a civilian. Yahaya Ubaidu, a resident who confirmed the incident on Wednesday, said it happened around 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, when soldiers engaged bandits in Akoti, one kilometer from Kagarko town.

The soldiers were alerted after the bandits rustled over 100 cows from neighboring Kasangwai village while passing through Akoti village, according to him. When the soldiers arrived, there was a shootout.

He explained that the soldiers who arrived in Akoti village in two gun trucks were caught off guard when the bandits opened fire, killing one and injuring three others.

Yahaya said, “One of the villagers who was running to safety was hit by a stray bullet from the bandits and is currently being treated at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH) in Gwagwalada.”

According to the victim, who was seen with bandages on his waist and stomach, the bandits who overpowered the soldiers burned down one of the soldiers’ gun trucks and fled with the cows.

The Madaki of Janjala, Samaila Babangida, confirmed the incident.

Madaki said, “From what I heard this morning, the soldiers came from Kaduna to evacuate the three injured soldiers and the body of the one killed.”
