The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, visited the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, at his private residence in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
The meeting was a closed-door one, and neither Wike nor Obi disclosed details of what was discussed after the meeting.
However, there are speculations that the LP candidate may have visited Wike to seek his support ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
Wike and Obi were both presidential aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but Obi defected to the Labour Party while Wike lost the primary to former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, who polled 371 votes against Wike’s 237 votes.
Obi is the third prominent politician to visit Wike after the PDP presidential primaries in May.
Abubakar and the Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, had earlier visited the Rivers State governor at his Abuja and Port Harcourt residences, respectively.
Obi’s visit comes amidst speculations that Wike may dump the PDP due to his failure to emerge Atiku’s running mate for the 2023 election.
