Ex-Rivers Accountant-General declared wanted for fraud emerges PDP guber candidate

A former Accountant-General of Rivers State, Siminialayi Fubara, who is currently declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for a N345billion fraud, has won the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary for the 2023 general election.

The chairman of the electoral committee, Walter Mbotu, declared Fubara winner of the ticket on Wednesday after he scored 721 votes to defeat 15 other aspirants.

Announcing the results, Mbotu said Isaac Kamalu came a distant second with 86 votes while a former Rivers PDP chairman, Felix obua, got two votes; David Brigs (four), West Morgan (four), Tammy Danagogo (36) and George Kelly (37) while others scored zero vote.

About 898 delegates assembled at the Dr Obi Wali Conference Centre in Rivers State, the venue of the primary election, on Wednesday to vote for their preferred aspirants.

Mbotu said out of 980 expected delegates, 898 were accredited to vote while 8 votes were voided.
