The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has granted the immediate past Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, administrative bail after spending four nights in detention.
EFCC chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, disclosed this to journalists on Monday in Abuja.
He said the recent arrest and questioning of the former governor is not politically motivated, and that Obiano was cooperating with the commission to perfect the bail conditions.
Bawa spoke at the 5th Annual General Assembly of the Network of National Anti-corruption institutions in West Africa (NACIWA).
Recall that Obiano was arrested by the anti-graft agency at about 8:30pm last Thursday after the inauguration of the new Anambra State Governor, Charles Chukwuma Soludo.
The EFCC said Obiano will be released when he fulfils his bail conditions.
“Nothing political about the arrest of the former Anambra State Governor, Wille Obiano. He has been granted bail. But we await (when) he fulfils his bail conditions, ” Bawa said.
