2023: Tinubu meets Buhari in Aso Rock, declares intention to run for president

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has formally declared his intention to run for president in 2023.

Tinubu disclosed this to State House correspondents after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja on Monday.

The 69-year-old said it has been his age-long ambition to lead the country one day.

He said, “I have informed the President of my ambition but I have not informed Nigerians yet, I am still consulting. And I have no problem consulting. And I’ve not set a parameter of limitation to the extent of how many people I will consult.

“You will soon hear. All you want to hear is the categorical declaration. You’ve gotten that truth from me that I have informed Mr President of my ambition, and you don’t expect more answers than that.”

Without denying his role as a “kingmaker” in the Nigerian political space, the APC chieftain restated his rights to contest for any seat in the country.

“About the cap of the kingmaker. I’ve never seen the cap of a kingmaker before. That is the truth. And I’ve never seen where it is written in the rule book anywhere in any country that a kingmaker cannot be a king unless you commit murder.

“So, whatever is your attribute is your own opinion. I want to pursue my ambition without the title of a kingmaker. You can write your literature and your story based upon your own perception,” Tinubu said.

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has commended Tinubu for informing the President of his 2023 Presidential ambition.

The chairman-elect of the APC in Lagos, Cornelius Ojelabi, said Tinubu is the most qualified aspirant and can now make more consultations nationwide.

“Informing the President of his intention is the right thing to do. Having informed him officially now he can then intensify his consultations across the country,” he said.
