10 people killed, 35 rescued, others trapped as Salvation Ministries church collapses in Delta

The building housing Salvation Ministries, Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State collapsed on Tuesday evening, killing about 10 people and trapping an unspecified number of worshippers.

The building which was reportedly being used for the first time for the Tuesday evening service, collapsed at about 5:55pm.

It was gathered that so far, over 35 persons, including children, women and men have been rescued unhurt, while four persons have been rushed to the Asaba Specialist Hospital for medical attention.

According to reports, the building, which is over 10 years was initially designed as a plaza before the church bought it at N300 million, adding that the one storey building was being reconstructed by the Church.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Patrick Ukah, the State Commissioner for Health, Ononye Mordi, team of Red Cross officers, fire fighters, Police officers and Men of the Delta State Emergency Management Agency were reportedly on ground on a rescue mission.
