Armed bandits attacked a mosque in Ba’are area, Mashegu Local Government Area of Niger State on Wednesday, killing 9 worshippers.
The police commissioner in the state, Bala Kuryas, broke the news on Thursday, adding that security has been beefed up in the affected community.
However, residents of the area said 16 people were killed and 12 others injured in the attack.
It was gathered that the attackers invaded the mosque in the early hours of Wednesday when residents were performing the dawn congregational prayers.
A source said that those who were injured were taken to the Kontagora General Hospital for treatment.
