3 FCT council chairmen travelled abroad while primary schools were on strike – NUT Official

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Kubwa chapter,  Ameh Baba on Wednesday accused the area council chairmen of playing with the future of innocent children.

Recall that teachers in the Federal Capital Territory had embarked on a strike over the failure of the area councils in the FCT to implement their promotional allowances.

They also said all the meetings held with the six area council chairmen did not yield result which left them with no option but to embark on strike.

The strike has however been suspended after two weeks following the interventions of the Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) at the National Assembly, Philip Adudua, and Muhammad Bello, FCT Minister.

Shortly after the suspension of strike, Ameh while speaking with newsmen accused the council chairmen of not keeping their responsibility on basic education.

He said, “Can you imagine that, as the strike was ongoing three of them travelled to Dubai last week and up till now they are there, possibly for Christmas shopping.”

Ameh however, did not disclose the identities of the chairmen who travelled abroad during the strike.

He added that the Union would make a request for an extension of the current term in order to enable teachers cover some syllables as a result of the strike.
