President Buhari suspends inauguration of NNPC board indefinitely

President Muhammadu Buhari has suspended the inauguration of the newly constituted board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), Limited.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha.

He said the inauguration which was scheduled to hold on Wednesday has been postponed indefinitely.

Mustapha who did not state any reason for the postponement said, “A new date for the inauguration of the Board will be announced in due course.

“We deeply regret inconveniences caused to members by this suspension, please,” he said.

Recall that President Buhari had in September named the new board members of the NNPC.

President Buhari appointed a former senator, Ifeanyi Ararume, as the Chairman of the Board, with Umar Ajiya being the Chief Financial Officer.

Other appointed board members are Tajudeen Umar (North East), Lami Ahmed (North Central), Mohammed Lawal (North West), Margaret Chuba Okadigbo (South East), Constance Marshal (South South), and Pius Akinyelure (South West).

The president also appointed the Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Mele Kyari, as the Chief Executive Officer and a member of the new board.
