Members of Boko Haram sect surrender in Borno

Some members of the Boko Haram sect on Wednesday renounced their membership by giving up their arms and ammunitions to security forces stationed in the Gwoza axis of Borno state.

It was learnt that the commanders and foot soldiers had escaped from Jaje within the Sambisa Forest and surrendered to operation Hadin Kai troops of 192 Battalion deployed to Gwoza-Limankara road who took them into custody.

An intelligence officer who pled anonymity said many terrorists were forcefully conscripted at a young age.

The officer said, “So far, more than 17,000 members of Boko Haram have surrendered despite ISWAP efforts to stop them.

“The military expects more submissions before the end of 2021.”
