The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Ogbonnaya Onu on Thursday, while calling for the production of Nigerian-made security equipment said the current security challenges in country are a price for national development.
Onu disclosed this when he received the report of the inter-ministerial committee on the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Federal Government of Nigeria and Wiseguard Technologies Nig. Ltd in Abuja.
This was contained in a press statement titled ‘Onu advocates for Nigerian-made security equipment’, and issued by Otuyemi Adetayo, a member of the ministry’s press and PR team.
The statement read, “The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Ogbonnaya Onu has said that Nigeria needs to intensify efforts in producing equipment to help fight insecurity and further equip the armed forces.
“He assured Nigerians that the current security challenges bedevilling the country are a price for national development, adding that more indigenous innovations will emanate from the security situation.”
Also, the minister emphasized on the need for security in rural and urban communities.
