Senate confirms appointment of 5 nominees as EFCC board members

The Senate has confirmed the appointments of five nominees as board members of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The nominees were confirmed on Tuesday following the consideration of a report by the Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes, chaired by Senator Suleiman Abdu Kwari.

Recall that in a letter dated September 17, 2021, President Muhammadu Buhari had written a letter to the Red Chamber seeking the confirmation of the nominees for the Secretary and Board members of EFCC.

Those confirmed include George Abang Ekungu (Cross River), as Secretary; and Luqman Muhammed (Edo), Anumba Adaeze (Enugu), Alh. Kola Raheem Adesina (Kwara) and Alh. Yahaya Muhammad (Yobe); as board members.

In his presentation, the chairman of the committee, Senator Kwari said the nominees responded to questions posed by members on how they would contribute to achieving the Commission’s mandate when they appeared before the panel for screening.

He added that after scrutinizing their credentials, the committee was satisfied that the nominees have the requisite experience, integrity, professional competence and industry to discharge the functions for which they were nominated.
