ROOTS TV EXCLUSIVE: Tough Times Await Super TV CEO’S Murderer as IGP Transfers Case to FCID

Following a petition by the family of late Usifo Ataga, over the unprofessional conduct of the police and the media circus around the investigation of Chidinma Ojukwu, the prime suspect and her accomplices, the Inspector General of Police has transferred the case to the crack FCID team.

It will be recalled that the corpse of the late Usifo Ataga was discovered in a Lekki Airbnb on the 16th of June, 2021, where he had lodged with the self-confessed murderess, Chidinma Ojukwu. The family was said to be unhappy with the star treatment she was getting from the police who allowed her access to journalists for exclusive interviews.

The suspect was apprehended by the police less than a week after the incident and paraded on the 24th of June, 2021, where she confessed to murdering the late Super TV CEO.

However, in a dramatic turn of events, she was seen in an exclusive interview on the 12th of July, 2021, recanting her earlier confession, and adorning what seemed like a professional makeover and wardrobe. In the interview, she claimed she didn’t kill late Usifo, but met his dead body and robbed him before leaving the apartment.

The family and concerned Nigerians had on several occasions complained over what they termed the “VIP treatment” being given to the suspect, citing different instances where it was allegedly obvious the police accorded her more regards than ordinarily given every other suspect, especially one of such a high profile case.

Perhaps the straw that broke the camel’s back for the family was when Chidinma was reportedly conveyed in a private car to a magistrate court for her arraignment on August 9, 2021, on a holding charge. The family claims they were not informed and only heard the news via the Sahara Reporters’ website.

Some of her accomplices were said to have been granted bail by the Magistrate.

With the case now transferred, it is expected that a proper investigation and prosecution will be done by the FCID.
