Hushpuppi: Abba Kyari deletes controversial Facebook post on N8m FBI indictment

Nigeria’s most celebrated police chief, Abba Kyari, has deleted his infamous Facebook post in which he reacted to his indictment by FBI in a fraud scheme linked to Nigerian notorious fraudster, Ramon Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi.

Recall that hours after the U.S Department of Justice released a document indicting Kyari on July 29, the deputy IGP took to his Facebook, saying the only encounter he had with Hushpuppi was when he had to arrest one Vincent Chibuzo, whom Hushpuppi had reported as a threat.

He also stated that he helped the Instagram celebrity purchase native clothes.

Kyari had written, “Nobody demanded any money from Abbas Hushpuppi and nobody collected any money from him.

“We responded to a distress call he made on threat to his family and released the Suspect when we discovered there was no life threat from the Suspect. This is the true story. Vincent is alive, he can be contacted.”

But it was soon clear that  Kyari was lying about his relationship with Hushpuppi and what he knew of the fraud after the syndicate’s full indictment and Kyari’s arrest warrant was issued by the US Court.

After the police confirmed that the released documents were genuinely from the U.S authorities, Kyari was suspended and a panel was raised to probe his involvement in a cross-border scheme of wire fraud and money laundering.

However, at about 12:03am on Wednesday, Kyari edited the Facebook post to remove the N300,000 claim and admitted that he received N8 million from Hushpuppi to hold a member of their syndicate, Chibuzo Vincent, in custody for a $1.1 million cyber heist.

Barely 4 hours later, at about 4:01am, both the original post and the edits had disappeared from Kyari’s page.
