EFCC grills former Bayelsa Governor, Seriake Dickson, over corruption allegations

A former governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson, was invited and grilled by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday over alleged corruption.

Dickson, who is currently the senator representing Bayesla West in the National Assembly, is being interrogated over corruption allegations bordering on abuse of office and misappropriation of public funds during his tenure as Bayelsa State Governor.

Dickson was said to have arrived at the EFCC headquarters at about 11am.

The spokesperson of the commission, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the invitation of the former governor to newsmen.

Before now, there have been media reports of a petition calling for the EFCC to probe Dickson’s tenure as governor.

Recall that in December 2020, The Nation reported that a group, the Patriot of Anti-Corruption League, petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate him for money laundering, false and anticipatory declaration of assets and corruption.

Reacting to his invitation by the EFCC, Dickson, in a statement issued on Tuesday, said he was interrogated by the EFCC over alleged diversion of N17.5 billion ecological funds and assets declaration breaches.
