Court grants detained 22-year-old “IPOB/ESN Commander’s girlfriend” bail

A Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Nigeria Police Force to charge one 22-year-old Gloria Okolie to court on or before August 31, 2021, or be granted bail in the sum of N2 million and Level 12 officer as bond and surety.

The court ruling is coming more 2 months after the police Intelligence Response Team arrested and detained Okolie for allegedly being involved with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

Human rights activist and Director-General of Behind Bars Initiative, Harrison Gwamnishu, confirmed the development to newsmen on Friday.

Recall that the activist and others had dragged the police to court to respect the fundamental rights to freedom of Okolie.

The detainee was first detained at the IRT office in Owerri, Imo State, before being transferred to Abuja.

Christian Okolie, the uncle to Gloria, had said the policemen extorted N280,000 in bribes and demanded an additional N100,000 to free his niece.

Her family had also alleged that she was used as a maid and sex slave by the officers while in custody.
