Buhari presides over National Security Council meeting

President Muhammadu Buhari presided over a crucial security meeting today with all the nation’s service chiefs and relevant cabinet ministers in attendance.

In an earlier statement issued on Tuesday, the Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the meeting was summoned to critically analyze the prevailing challenges of security plaguing the country with a view to charting the best way forward.

The Thursday meeting is expected to discuss successes being achieved in the renewed onslaught against terrorism, insurgency as well as the deadly activities of bandits across the country.

As of the time this report was filed, details of the meeting were not disclosed but it was expected to also look into the security implications of the reported mass surrender of Boko Haram insurgents and members of their families in the North-east.

Those in attendance were all the service chiefs, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, Chief of Staff to the President, Ibrahim Gambari; Secretary to Government of the Federation, Abubakar Malami; Ministers of Defence, Justice, Interior, Police and Foreign Affairs as well as the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno
