Bandits release 15 more Bethel Baptist students, 65 still in captivity

The bandits, who abducted 121 students of Bethel Baptist High School in Kaduna State, have released another batch of 15 of the students.

Recall that the students were kidnapped from the school premises on July 5, 2021.

Confirming the development to newsmen on Sunday, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Kaduna State, Rev. John Joseph Hayab, said the 15 students were released on Saturday night.

65 students are still in captivity.

According to Hayab, there would be no reunion ceremony for the freed students as their parents will simply pick them up and go home.

He said, “15 were released last night. We have chosen not to make it elaborate since we still have 65 left and the pace of the release is slow for our expectation.”

Recall that on July 25, the bandits released 28 students after collecting N100 million ransom.

They later demanded a fresh N80 million ransom for the release of the remaining 80 students.

It was gathered that the 15 students were freed after a huge amount of money was paid.
