3rd Wave: Nigeria records 444 new COVID-19 cases, 11 deaths

Nigeria has recorded 444 new COVID-19 cases with 11 deaths.

This is coming less than 24 hours after the federal government officially declared the third wave of the coronavirus pandemic in the country.

The recent update was posted on the Facebook page of the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) on Monday.

With the 11 deaths recorded on Monday, the total number of fatalities from the disease now stands at 2,160.

Also, the total number of confirmed cases of the infection in the country is now 174,759.

Health experts have, however, attributed the increase in deaths to public health fatigue and an upscale in infections with the rapid spread of the highly transmissible Delta variant of the virus.

The 444 new cases were reported from 12 states, including the Federal Capital Territory.

Lagos recorded the highest figure on Monday with 275 cases, while Rivers and Akwa Ibom States followed with 63 and 62 cases respectively.

Gombe state reported 22, Ogun recorded 8, the FCT nad Edo state recorded 4 cases while Imo state recorded 3.Nasarawa, Sokoto, Kano, Jigawa and Ebonyi states recorded only 1 infection each.
