12 American soldiers among those killed in Kabul bomb explosions – U.S Govt

The U.S. government has confirmed that 12 of its soldiers were among those killed in the bomb explosions that occurred at Kabul airport in Afghanistan.

There were twin explosions outside the Kabul airport on Thursday, which killed about 60 people, apart from the U.S soldiers.

Aljazeera reported that more than 60 wounded persons are currently being treated at the emergency hospital in Kabul.

Addressing journalists in Washington on Thursday, a Pentagon official said the attackers are believed to be linked to Islamic State Khorasan (ISIS-K), a splinter group of disaffected Pakistani Taliban created six years ago.

As the August 31st deadline set by the U.S. government nears, Western forces have evacuated about 13,400 people out of Kabul on 91 military cargo aircraft flights in the last 24 hours.

According to U.S Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, about 1,500 Americans are yet to be evacuated from Afghanistan.
