Senate suspends plenary for 2 months, embarks on annual recess

The Senate has suspended plenary for the next two months as lawmakers begin their annual recess.

The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, announced this at the end of plenary on Thursday.

The lawmakers will resume on September 14, 2021.

Lawan stated that the Senate had achieved the set goals for the most part of the year, citing the passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) and the Electoral Amendment Bill.

He said, “Everyone did what they did in what they believed. We want to ensure that no Nigerian is disenfranchised in elections. This has settled the issue of what INEC can do and cannot do. We have given them an amended bill to do their work.”

The Senate President also dissolved the conference committee, which was set up to harmonize the reports of the PIB for both chambers of the National Assembly.
