Nigeria imports 21 ships of fish, salt, sugar, petrol

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has released a list of the latest imported goods into the country to include 21 ships of fish, salt, sugar, petrol, butane gas, among other items.

The most populous black nation on earth depends largely on imports to drive its floundering economy and the widening appetite of its citizens for imported consumer goods.

The country’s current debt profile stands at more than N33 trillion.

The NPA disclosed this in its publication, ‘Shipping Position,’ on Tuesday.

The NPA said it also expected 20 other ships laden with petroleum products, food items, and other goods from July 20 to 30.

According to the port agency, the ships will arrive at the Lagos Port Complex.

The publication said the ships contained general cargo, bulk salt, bulk wheat, bulk sugar, and container.

Other items on the ships were listed as trucks, bulk gypsum, base oil, automobile gasoline, jet fuel, petrol, palmitic palm fatty acids, bulk steam coal, and bulk fertilizer.

Meanwhile, another five ships that had arrived at the ports were waiting to berth with containers, general cargo, and petrol.
