The House of Representatives has passed the Electoral Act Amendment bill and the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB).
Both bills were passed on Friday after a clause-by-clause consideration.
The House of Representatives’ Leader, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, had moved a motion for the bills to be passed and the Deputy Leader, Peter Akpatason, seconded it.
Before the bills were passed, some lawmakers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) walked out of the chamber over clause 52 of the Electoral Act Amendment bill, which suggests electronic transmission of election results.
The opposition lawmakers had disagreed with Ahmed Idris Wase, the Deputy Speaker, who presided over the sitting, concerning the controversial clause.
The development brewed some commotion and a fight broke out.
However, the house passed the bill and adopted electronic and manual transmission of election results “where and when practicable.”
