Bandits killed 222, kidnapped 774 in Kaduna in three months – Commissioner

No fewer than 222 persons have been killed and 774 persons have been kidnapped by bandits in Kaduna State in the last three months.

Also, 226 persons have been injured in the second quarter in the state.

The Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, disclosed this while presenting the second quarter security report on Tuesday.

He said that bandits raped 20 women between April and June 2021 and 54 persons were killed in Southern Kaduna Senatorial Zone; among them five women and four minors in the Jema’a, Kachia and Kauru LGA.

In the Northern Senatorial Zone, he said, nine deaths were recorded within the period, adding that among the number abducted were 239 women and 32 minors.

However, no fewer than 87 bandits were killed by security agencies and 24 suspects arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS).

According to the commissioner, a total of 8,553 cattle were rustled by bandits within the period.

Aruwan said, “Insecurity, particularly in frontline communities, have threatened food security because most farmers in those communities have abandoned their farmlands for fear of being killed or kidnapped for ransom.”
