EFCC to file 800 new corruption cases, vows to re-prosecute Orji Uzor-Kalu

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has said it will file 800 new corruption cases in court, bordering on public corruption and cybercrime.

EFCC Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, revealed this to State House Correspondents on Thursday after the weekly briefing by Heads of MDAs in Abuja.

Bawa said the cases were delayed because of the strike by judiciary workers, who shut down courts in Nigeria for over two months and only recently suspended the strike.

The EFCC boss also vowed to re-prosecute the former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor-Kalu.

Recall that Kalu was set free by the Supreme Court on technicalities after being convicted of stealing billions of naira when he was Abia State Governor.

Bawa said Kalu “will be prosecuted all over again.

He also gave a rundown of his performance in office since assumption 100 days ago.

The anti graft agency boss revealed that the commission secured a judgment against a former banker, Francis Atuche, who was sentenced to six years in jail for stealing N27 billion from the former Bank PHB while he was the managing director.

He said; “This case was instituted on October 16, 2009, but judgment was only given yesterday. But we are determined to continue prosecuting no matter how long it takes.”
