Thirteen persons, including women and children, were killed in a boat accident that occurred in Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Thursday.
The victims were said to be traveling from Doruwa to Ginga area when the boat capsized.
The Chairman of the local government council, Aliyu Dantine Shagari, confirmed the incident, noting that eight of the victims were married women and the remaining five were children and elderly men.
Shagari also said the cause of the boat accident may be overload but that investigations were ongoing.
He confirmed that all their bodies had been recovered and buried in line with Islamic rites.
On Friday, the State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, sympathized with families of those who lost their lives in the incident and provide to provide motorized boats and life jackets to residents.
Also reacting to the incident, Senator Aliyu Wamakko expressed and sympathized with the people.
Note that this incident happened barely nine days after over 150 people lost their lives in a similar mishap in Warra Local Government of Kebbi State.
