Abuja schools shutdown over arrival of about 200 suspected bandits in border town

Private schools in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, shut down on Wednesday over fear of possible attack by bandits.

This is despite assurances by police and security operatives that Abuja is safe.

It was gathered that the rush to close schools in the area was due to information received on the migration of over 200 unidentified men suspected to be bandits, who were dropped off by a truck in Sabon Wuse area of Niger State.

Note that Sabon Wuse is a border town with Bwari, Abuja.

Reports say some of the closed schools directed students to remain at home till further notice.

Some of the schools in Bwari area council that sent their students home on Wednesday for fear of possible attacks by criminal elements include; De-Goopherwood Montessori School (close to Nigerian Law School), Glorious Bright School, Tundun Fulani and Asusi International School.

Last week, over ten persons were said to have been kidnapped in Bwari area council and a ransom of about N10 million was paid to secure their release.

Also, about seven persons were reportedly kidnapped in Sabon Fulani area of the council and about N5 million ransom was said to have been paid.
