NDLEA intercepts illicit drugs concealed in a statue of Mary

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted illicit drugs concealed in a statue of Mary and auto spare parts heading to Canada and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The drugs were intercepted by operatives of the agency attached with two courier companies in Lagos.

This was revealed in a press statement released by the Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, saying narcotics agents from the Directorate of Operation and General Investigations seized 500 grams of heroin and 140 grams of Methamphetamine.

He further said the heroine weighing 500 grams was hidden in auto spare parts going to Canada and 140 grams of Methamphetamine concealed inside a statue of Mary heading to the Philippines.

According to the Director, Operations and General Investigations, Adeofe;

“3.1 kg of cannabis going to UAE concealed inside spices, and another kilogram of cannabis going to UAE concealed inside local herbs were intercepted and seized.”

In the same vein, the Ondo State Command of the Agency in various operations across the state between the 6th and 20th of April, 2021, arrested 31 suspects and intercepted a total number of 275.552kg assorted illicit drugs.

Callys Alumona, Acting Commander of the state Command said,

“The sting operations were carried out to curb the increasing rate of drug abuse among the youths and even the elderly in Ondo State.” He said, “this has led to the arrest of 31 suspects, which include 24 males, and 7 females.” He added that the illicit drugs seized “consist of 74.285Kgs of cannabis Sativa, 267grammes of psychotropic substances; 201Kgs of skuchies (a combination of cannabis, tramadol, ethanol, and zobo), while many of the drug spots have been dismantled.”

Also, operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Command of the Agency have intercepted and seized 62.150kg of illicit drugs in the Oron and Uyo areas of the state.

According to the state Commander of the NDLEA, Mrs. Obot Bassey, four suspects were arrested during two operations carried out on the 22nd and 23rd  of April, 2021.

While reacting to the various successful operations, Chairman/Chief Executive of the Agency, Brig. General Mohammed Buba Marwa (Retd) had commended men and officers of Operations and General Investigation Directorate.

He also commended Ondo and Akwa Ibom state officers for their unrelenting efforts and commitment to the new maxim of offensive action, thereafter charging them to be more focused and engage more in getting rid of the scourge of drug abuse and trafficking in the country.
