Another Police Station in Cross River State has been attacked by unknown gunmen, who assaulted policemen on duty and carted away arms.
Speaking with newsmen, an eyewitness who pled anonymity, alleged that the gunmen carted away an AK 47 after beating up the policeman on duty.
The witness said, “The hoodlums invaded the Police Station located at Ekori community of Yakurr with heavy weapons and attacked the officers.”
It was also gathered that the attack led to the closure of the Ekori Police Station indefinitely and officers were asked to move to Ugep Divisional Police, at the local government headquarters.
This is the third attack on officers of the Nigeria Police Force and its facilities within two months in Cross River State.
Recall that the first incident occurred at a checkpoint located at Idundu Road by Goodluck Ebele Jonathan bypass in Calabar where four police officers were killed while the second attack was at Obubra where scores of police officers, including a Nigerian Army officer, was killed.
Confirming this incident, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer Igri Ewa said investigations on the matter were ongoing, adding that the Command will issue a statement on the matter soon.
