Customs intercept 2 boats laden with illegal drugs at Lagos beach

The Nigeria Customs Service, Western Marine Command, has intercepted two wooden boats laden with 147 sacks of Cannabis Sativa at the Ibeche Beach along Badagry lagoon in Lagos state.

The illegal substance, which is estimated at a gross mass of 6,615Kg with a total Duty Paid Value of N694.6 million, was handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

Six suspects were also arrested alongside the items and handed over to the NDLEA.

Olugboyega Peters, the Comptroller of Customs in the area said, “we are today handing these items with the six suspects over to the representative of NDLEA in line with established corporation and national interest.

“I urge the NDLEA to invite us during the destruction of this marijuana and a copy of certificate of destruction issued to the NCS for statistical and record keeping.”

Peters added that the command will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that illegitimate trade is not carried out at the command’s operational territory.
