12 persons confirmed dead, houses, shops razed down in Benue tanker explosion

A tanker explosion that occurred at Oshigbudu village in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State has led to the death of 12 persons.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday, was said to have been caused by a petrol tanker that fell at the Oshigbudu-Obagaji junction and spilt its contents.

Yakubu Mohammed, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) speaking with newsmen said the tanker which lost control killed eight males, three females and a little boy.

However, he was not able to state the number of those affected by the fire which razed down houses and shops.

Mohammed said, “Everything is calm now but you know the tanker lost control and crashed. Immediately it crashed the fuel spilt and affected shops and houses.”

The Sector Commander added that FRSC operatives and other agencies were working together to evacuate the casualties and control the situation.
