A soldier with the Nigerian army school of armour in Bauchi State has committed suicide.
The soldier, identified as Bello Useni, was at his duty post at Obienu barracks in Bauchi, when he suddenly cocked his rifle and shot himself in the stomach.
This incident happened around 4pm on Wednesday.
As at the time this report was filed, it was not clear why the soldier, who was one of those newly recruited in 2020, killed himself.
According to reports, Useni died on the spot and his body was wheeled into the morgue at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital, Bauchi State.
A source said: “He was on duty alongside his colleagues. They were all discussing normal soldier things and suddenly, he pulled out his gun and shot himself in the stomach.”
The case has been reported to the army headquarters and a board has been set up to carry out investigations on the case.
All the soldiers present at the time he shot himself have all been detained in the guardroom.
