The Senate on Wednesday confirmed the nomination of Haliru Nababa as the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS).
Nababa’s confirmation followed the consideration and adoption of the report of the Committee on Interior.
Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had written a letter to the Senate on February 23, requesting the confirmation of the appointment of Nababa, as the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service.
The Committee’s Chairman, Senator Kashim Shettima presenting the report said there were no incriminating reports against the nominee as he satisfied the requirements of Section 3(2), as contained in the Nigerian Correctional Service Act, 2019.
Shettima said the nominee while appearing for screening before the Committee, identified a lack of adequate supply of arms and ammunition to curb jailbreak in the country. He added that Nababa showed a high level of intelligence to take on the job.
Also, the Chairman noted that the nominee gave some challenges facing NCS which are that the lack of adequate funding, inadequate releases of allocations and poor Correctional Centers structures.
