NDLEA to collaborate with NIS – Marwa

The National Drug Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has said it will collaborate with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in making use of their database to track drug barons and traffickers in the country.

Chairman/CEO of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Marwa (Rtd), said this during a courtesy visit to the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Muhammed Babandede, in Abuja on Monday.

Marwa commended the NIS boss for deploying modern technology and equipment to safeguard the huge data for the nation’s intelligence and law enforcement agencies, after a tour of the database facility.

He said; “No doubt, the Nigeria Immigration Service database will be of immense use to us in NDLEA in our efforts to track drug barons and traffickers wherever they may be hiding across the world and we’ll take advantage of the new technology deployed by the NIS now that the NDLEA is on top of its game.”

Marwa further commended the NIS in general for introducing drug integrity tests to the service, adding that the agency will continue to push the same for other government agencies and parastatals.

In the same vein, Babandede also commended all efforts put together by the NDLEA boss, adding that he is the right person the agency has been waiting for to handle the menace caused by drug traffickers in the country considering his level of competence, experience, and past records.

The NIS Comptroller General said; “We have no doubt that you will excel like you have done in previous national assignments and we are ready to work with you. On the drug integrity test, we will like the NDLEA positioned to conduct drug tests for the military and other law enforcement agencies.”

He added that jailing those caught with drugs isn’t enough, the hierarchy of all drug cartels must also be treated with the same measures.
