National Assembly workers threaten strike action over minimum wage

National Assembly workers under the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) have threatened to go on strike if the management of the federal parliament fails to implement the national minimum wage within two weeks.

This follows the expiration of their earlier 21-day ultimatum issued to the management which expired on Wednesday, March 17, 2021.

The ultimatum which was contained in a letter dated February 25 was jointly signed by Messrs Sunday Sabiyi and Ojemeri Oisameye, chairmen of the NASS and NASC chapters of PASAN, and was addressed to the chairman of the National Assembly Service Commission.

However, the group on Thursday in another letter jointly signed by Sabiyi and Oisameye noted the management’s ignorance of its 21-day ultimatum.

PASAN said, “The workers, therefore, said they could not guarantee industrial harmony if, at the end of their fresh 14-day strike notice, the management still ignored their demands.”
