Insecurity: Boko Haram burns down military base, school, health facility in Yobe

Suspected  Boko Haram terrorists on Tuesday burnt down a ‘military base’, school and health facility in Katarko village, Gujbe Local Government Area, Yobe  State.

The primary school the insurgents set ablaze was renovated by the Victim Support Fund after it was first burnt down in 2013.

According to unconfirmed reports, an NGO had stored food items in the school for distribution but the terrorists got the information and decided to attack the school and loot the items.

Residents said the the village was attacked around 5.30am and the operation was on for about an hour, unchallenged.

Up until this report was filed, neither the police nor the military issued an official statement on the attack.

A resident, Modu Katarko, “We heard them shouting Allah Alkabar! Allah Alkabar! after the early morning prayers and shooting sporadically.

“ Everyone ran indoors until about one hour when they finished their operation and left the village.

“The primary school, primary healthcare facility and the military base here were all burnt down,”

The villagers said that the army spokesperson, Sector 2 Operation Lafiya Dole, Kennedy Anyanwu, did not respond to messages sent to his phone for his comments by our correspondent.
