Detention of 3 heroic OPC members: Security agencies cannot be trusted – Ibarapa youths

Youths of Ibarapaland in Oyo state stormed the state Secretariat on Monday, expressing their displeasure towards the incessant killings, rape, kidnapping, and destruction of their farm produce by armed herdsmen.

Part of their requests was the demand for the release of the three Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) members who arrested Fulani ‘warlord’, Isiaku Wakili, alleged to be the mastermind behind criminal activities in the region.

Recall that insecurity has been a major challenge in the Ibarapa area of Oyo State as suspected armed herders have been accused of killing, raping, and kidnapping residents.

According to reports, aggrieved protesters had around 10:40 am stormed the government house, with placards with different inscriptions containing their demands.

One of the protest organizers, Oladiran Oladokun, told journalists that the arraignment and detention of the 3 OPC members is a sign that securities agencies cannot not be trusted.

He said security operatives refused to arrest Wakili who had reportedly been terrorizing the community for so long but detained the OPC members who risked their lives in apprehending him.

Oladokun said, “We are here to protest the arrest and remand of the three OPC members in prison. These men are heroes, they risked their lives to arrest Wakili who has terrorized the people of Kajola, Ayete, and other villages.

They went to Wakili’s place and arrested him but the police turned against them and detained them. This is a bad signal to Nigerians on security issues.”iskil
