UNIABUJA students barricade school entrance, protest fee increment

Students of the University of Abuja staged a peaceful protest at the entrance of the school on Monday over a recent increase in tuition fee and other issues.

The students are also reportedly protesting against the closure of the portal meant for the payment of school fees and N5,000 payment for late registration of courses.

The students blocked the popular Giri Airport road while some took to Twitter to vent their grievances.

A Twitter user with the handle @Akachi68 wrote, the students are “protesting against the closure of school fees portal and 5k payment for late registration of courses.”

Another Twitter user with the handle @mayorkheengz added that “End school fees hike! We cannot pay over 100 percent increase. The University of Abuja is a federal university. ETF is building the school. What is the increment for?”

“Reopening and extension of school fees portal till the end of the session, no late registration fee including Add and Drop review and reduction of school fees ahead of next session, and postponement of first semester examination to 8th of March 2021.”
