Senate screens newly appointed EFCC chairman, Bawa

The newly appointed Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa, was screened by the Senate on Wednesday.

The Senate commenced the screening of Bawa for confirmation in the morning after initially distributing his CV to senators present ahead of the hearing.

Bawa was led into the Chambers by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Babajide Omoworare.

The nominee is believed to be the candidate of the Attorney-General of the Federation,  Abubakar Malami (SAN).

Recall that on February 16, President Muhammadu Buhari had asked the Senate to confirm Bawa as the substantive Chairman of the EFCC which is in accordance with Paragraph 2(3) of Part1, CAP E1 of EFCC Act 2004.

If confirmed, the 40-year-old will be the youngest person ever to serve as chairman of the nation’s foremost anti-corruption agency.
