Over 300 school girls abducted in Zamfara

About 300 students of Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe, Zamafara State, were kidnapped by gunmen in the early hours of Friday.

This is coming almost two weeks after 42 students and staff were kidnapped from a school in Kagara, Niger State.

The Special Assistant to Zamfara State Governor, Zailani Bappah, confirmed the abduction on Friday morning to BBC pidgin.

This is the third mass abduction carried out by bandits targeting schools within the space of three months.

Recall that on December 11, 2020, gunmen raided Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State, and kidnapped hundreds of students. However, six day later, the school boys were released by their abductors through the help of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria.

Similarly, on December 17, 2021, some students and teachers of Government Science College, Kagara, Niger State, were kidnapped by gunmen who attacked the school around 2:00am.

The latest kidnap in Zamfara also reportedly happened at exactly 2:00am on Friday, February 26, 2021.
