Fire killed 3, destroyed property worth N357M in Gombe in 2020

Three lives and property worth N357 million were lost to fire in Gombe state in 2020.

Salihu Doho, Deputy Operation Officer, Gombe State Fire Service, who revealed this in an interview on Tuesday, said men of the service also saved property worth over N1.349 billion.

During the period under review, Doho said the service was able to save 688 lives, 7 injuries were recorded and 279 incident calls were received.

He stated that the number of lives and property lost to fire outbreaks in 2020 was lesser when compared to over 12 lives and property worth N636 million lost in the first half of 2019.

He said the efforts of his personnel and that of the state government in procuring some basic fire fighting items resulted in the speedy response to incident calls, which is minimizing losses from fire outbreaks.

Doho added that a lot of sensitization was carried out in the year under review in collaboration with the Federal Fire Service to ensure that residents were aware of the danger of fire outbreaks.

He advised residents of the state to pay attention to anything that could result into outbreaks like cooking gas and electrical appliances.

“When you light mosquito coils and candles put them on metal surface and not on woods,” said Doho.
