COVID-19: NAFDAC approves AstraZeneca vaccine

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has approved the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 for use in Nigeria.

This was announced by the Director-General of NAFDAC, Dr Mojisola Adeyeye, at  apress briefing on Thursday.

With the approval, Nigeria now stands a chance to battle the Coronavirus pandemic among the global community.

Adeyeye said NAFDAC received the dossier of the vaccine last week and its safety committee went to work immediately to evaluate its safety and efficacy for Nigerians.

She affirmed that the vaccine could be stored in 2 to 8 degrees Centigrade, adding that evaluation shows the Astrazeneca vaccine is effective against the UK variant of the virus which has been reported in Nigeria.

The NAFDAC boss further revealed that three additional vaccines are still undergoing evaluation, noting that no report of the South Africa variant has been reported in Nigeria.
