Adamu still in office, welcomes Buhari from Katsina

The retired Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, was one of the top government officials who welcomed President Muhammadu Buhari back to Abuja on Tuesday, despite rumors of new IGP appointment.

Adamu retired on Monday after completing 35 years in service.

Reports made rounds yesterday that Buhari had appointed AIG Zanna Mohammed Ibrahim, as acting Inspector General of Police.

But however, Adamu reported for work at the Police headquarters on Tuesday, and after attending to his official duties, he joined other top government officials at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja to welcome the President back form Katsina state.

The presence of the IGP still in office has caused different reactions as he has reached the required retirement age.

A police source, who spoke to The Punch said, “There is no truth in the reports that IGP Adamu has handed over to anybody.

“He worked throughout today (Tuesday) in his office and proceeded to the airport to receive Mr President in the evening.

“If he had handed over, it just makes sense that the person he handed over to would have been the one to receive the President at the airport.”

President Buhari, on Friday, travelled to his hometown Daura, Katsina State, for a four-day official visit where he revalidated his membership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Buhari was received at the airport by the IGP, 10 state governors elected on the APC  platform, the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, a former President of the Senate, Ken Nnamani, the Chief of Staff to the President, Ibrahim Gambari and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mohammed Bello, at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja.

As at the time of filing this report, the President is yet to issue a statement on Adamu’s fate.
